Privacy and disclosure

Short version: we do not ask you for anything, we do not know who you are, and we make money only when you choose to book through one of our links. The longer version is below, written the way we write everything else here.

What we collect

Nothing you type, because there is nothing to type. This site has no accounts, no logins, no comments, and no contact forms.

We do use Vercel Web Analytics to see which pages get read. It counts page views without cookies and without building a profile of you across sites. We see totals, like “this many people read the hotel review this week.” We cannot see individuals.

Our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, the page requested) for security and troubleshooting, the same way essentially every website works.

What we do not do

• We do not set advertising or tracking cookies of our own.
• We do not run ad networks or sell data to anyone, ever.
• We do not load Google Fonts from Google. The fonts on this site are served from our own domain, so visiting us does not tell Google you were here.
• We do not have a newsletter yet. Where you see an email box, it is a placeholder that is not connected to anything and stores nothing. When that changes, this page changes first.

Affiliate links, in plain terms

Some links to hotels, park tickets, transfers, and gear are affiliate links. If you click one and book or buy, the merchant may pay us a small commission. It costs you nothing extra, and the price you see is the same price you would get going direct.

One link is different and we want it stated here rather than only in passing. Our getting there page carries a personal Chase credit-card referral link. If someone is approved through it, Mark receives Rapid Rewards points rather than money. That page says so on the page itself. We describe how we booked our own flights; we do not advise anyone to open a credit line, and no page on this site should be read as financial advice.

Those merchants typically set their own cookie when you arrive from our link, so they know the referral came from us. That is their cookie under their privacy policy, not ours. We never see your payment details, your booking, or your name.

What commissions do not buy: a better review. Every verdict on this site is what we actually think, and our safety page carries no affiliate links at all. More on how we work on the about page.

Things we load from other people

A few pages show live conditions (active Atlantic storms, a satellite sargassum signal, exchange rates). Our server fetches those from NOAA and the European Central Bank on a schedule and passes you the result, so your browser never contacts those sources and they never learn anything about you.

Where we link out to other sites, including official Xcaret pages and news sources, their privacy policies apply once you land there.

Children

This site is written for adults planning family travel. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including any child who visits.

Our own children appear in our trip photos and are referred to by age rather than by name. Those photos are published with our consent as their parents, and we will take any of them down if we change our minds.

Your choices

Because we do not collect personal information, there is little to request or delete. If you would like to be certain, or you have a question about anything here, write to us at hello@wedidxcaret.comand we will answer honestly. Your browser’s tracking-protection and cookie settings apply here as they do anywhere, and nothing on this site breaks if you block everything.

Changes

When the site adds something that touches your data, such as a real newsletter, this page gets updated on the same day with the date at the top changed. We will not quietly expand what we collect.
